ARCHITECTURE DESIGN 3
Architectural Design 3 immerses students in the artistry of spatial experiences, transcending mere aesthetics. Delves into poetic architecture, crafting expressive spatial journeys that resonate emotionally. The focus shifts to the intrinsic connection between architecture and the genius loci of Kampung Morten, Malacca, demanding a deep understanding of cultural nuances. It also extends this exploration, challenging students to architecturally respond to design a Discovery Center, harmonizing history, culture, and community with spatial poetics.
ASSIGNMENT 1
In the realm of architectural design, the integration of "Textile Experiences" is crucial. Architects explore the diverse qualities of textiles and fabrics, recognizing their profound impact on human interaction, cultural identity, and emotional response within built environments.
Project 1 centers on the creation of a poetic architecture that celebrates the rich textile heritage of the Melaka Portuguese Community. This project seeks to weave expressive spatial journeys that go beyond mere aesthetics, engaging users on a sensory and emotional level through the thoughtful use of textiles and fabric.
By carefully considering the cultural significance of textile patterns, materials, and techniques within the Melaka Portuguese context, the aim is to create designs that resonate with beauty, cultural heritage, and meaningful experiences. The ultimate goal is to encapsulate a sense of fulfillment, honoring the community’s traditions while creating spaces that reflect their unique identity.
ASSIGNMENT 2A
n the exploration of designing a Discovery Center for the Melaka Portuguese Settlement, Project 2a emphasizes the intrinsic connection between architecture and the genius loci of a place. This project requires a deep understanding of the site's cultural, historical, and communal aspects, with a particular focus on the rich traditions of fabric and textile within the community.
A compulsory three-day site visit is planned to provide students with firsthand experiences that will inform their design process. During this visit, students will conduct research and interviews with local residents, focusing on the cultural activities that tie back to their fabric and textile heritage. The goal is to ensure that the resultant architectural response resonates harmoniously with the unique essence of the Melaka Portuguese Settlement, reflecting its deep-rooted traditions and vibrant cultural identity.
ASSIGNMENT 2B
In Project 2B, the challenge lies in crafting an architectural response that reflects the rich textile heritage of the Melaka Portuguese Community. This project focuses on designing a Discovery Center that not only engages with the site’s history, culture, and activities but also draws inspiration from the community's traditional fabrics and textiles.
Students are required to transform the cultural significance of these textiles into spatial experiences, resolving construction elements, selecting appropriate materials, and considering environmental factors. The goal is to create a small-scale, sustainable community building that harmoniously integrates with its context, reflecting the community’s identity through architectural design.
This endeavor emphasizes the poetic translation of textile patterns, weaving techniques, and cultural narratives into the architecture, ensuring that the final design communicates these inspirations effectively and resonates with the unique spirit of the Melaka Portuguese Settlement.

WHAT HAVE I LEARNED?
I've learned that architectural design extends beyond aesthetics, delving into the creation of spatial experiences that profoundly influence human emotions and behavior. Besides that, I underscored the vital link between architecture and the genius loci, necessitating a deep understanding of cultural and historical aspects. The three-day site visit for firsthand experiences was invaluable, shaping my design process and ensuring a harmonious architectural response to Melaka Portuguese Community unique essence. Overall, these projects have enriched my understanding of architectural design and its intricate connection to people, culture, and place.
TGC'S I HAVE ACHIEVED
In this module, I have learned some interesting things along my journey in my third semester. Along the way, I learned how to determine the poetic spaces of architecture of each building. I also learned about how each building corresponded to its surrounding which gives the surrounding area its own identity.
This learning led me to the first TGC'S, Lifelong Learning. Besides that, I learn how to identify the site that the structure is about to be build. It is important as this is one of the most important step in ensuring the design works well with the site. This led to my second TGC'S, Thinking and Problem-Solving Skills. As a continuation, I find it a little bit difficult for me to talk to my lecturer as I am not used to meeting new lecturers and tutors. But after getting to know them well, I find it very interesting and fun to have a conversation with them. They thought me how to be critical at all time, analysing and interpreting data as well as teaching me and guiding me along the way. This led me to my final TGC'S, Intrapersonal Skills which I have developed from all the guidance and teaching from them.
